Images in Templates

Executive Summary

  • Add images to a template via the image icon in the toolbar - uploaded images are stored in your image library.

  • An image in a template appears in every document generated from that template - for one-off client images, add them during the document review stage instead.

  • Images from uploaded Word document templates pull through automatically - no need to re-add them.

  • Images can only appear inline (above or below other content) - side-by-side placement is not currently supported.

Uploading Images to a Template

Open the template editor and click the image icon in the toolbar. Select Upload Image to upload a new file - this saves the image to your image library for reuse across templates.

Once uploaded, click the image in the library to insert it at your cursor position in the template.

Note: Images added to your library are available across all templates. You only need to upload an image once.

Images from Uploaded Document Templates

If you upload a Word document as a document template and it contains images, those images pull through automatically. You do not need to re-add them via the image library.

This applies to logos, charts, tables with embedded graphics, and any other images embedded in your Word file.

Conditional Images

You can give Marloo instructions to include an image only under certain conditions. This is useful for risk profile charts, product comparison visuals, or strategy diagrams that only apply to specific clients.

To set this up, upload all relevant images to your library, then add an instruction in the template such as:

"Include the Medium Risk Profile chart if the client has a medium risk profile. Include the Conservative Risk Profile chart if the client has a conservative risk profile."

Marloo will evaluate the client's context at generation time and include the matching image.

Template Images vs. Document-Stage Images

An image added to a template appears in every document generated from that template. Only add an image to the template if it should appear consistently across all clients.

For one-off images - such as a chart exported from modelling software for a specific client - add the image during the document review stage instead, not in the template.

Rule of thumb: If the image applies to every client, put it in the template. If it applies to this client only, add it in the document editor after generation.

Applies to Both Template Types

Image support works the same way in both meeting templates and document templates. You can add images to either type using the same toolbar icon and image library.

Layout Limitation: Inline Only

Images can only be placed inline - above or below other content. Side-by-side image placement (e.g., two charts next to each other) is not currently supported.

If your template requires a side-by-side layout, consider combining the images into a single file before uploading.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

Document generation fails when the template contains an image

If an image is causing issues, try reducing the file size before re-uploading.

Image does not appear in the generated document

Check that the image is correctly inserted in the template (not just uploaded to the library). Open the template editor and confirm the image is visible at the intended position.

Conditional image is not appearing when expected

Check that the image instruction in the template clearly references the client attribute (e.g., risk profile) and that the client's context contains that information. Regenerate after confirming both.

Image appears in the wrong position

Images are inline only - they appear above or below content, not beside it. Adjust the image position in the template editor by moving it to the correct paragraph or section break.

Image from uploaded Word template is not appearing

Ensure the image is embedded in the Word file rather than linked. Re-upload the document after confirming this. If the issue persists, contact support.
