When a single client record actually represents more than one person, Split breaks it apart into a group, with a separate member for each email address on the record.
What it is
Split takes one client that has more than one email address on it and turns it into a group, creating a separate member for each email.
Couple with a single shared email address? Split requires at least two distinct email addresses. If both people share one email address, use this workaround instead:
Create a new client record for the second person. The email field is optional, so you can leave it blank.
Go to Clients > Add new > New group and add both people to form a household group.
It's the counterpart to Merge. Where Merge combines duplicate records of the same person, Split separates a record that has ended up holding more than one person. The usual case is a couple or two individuals captured under one record (often because their emails got merged together), where you actually want them as separate people inside a household.
How to use it
Open the client you want to split from the Clients tab.
Click the ⋮ (three dots) next to the client's name, top right.
Choose Split.
The Split client window lists one member per email address found on the record. Check the addresses are right, and edit any that aren't.
Click Split client.
The record then becomes a group, with one member created for each email address. Each person appears under Members on the group's Overview.
Good to know
Your history stays put. Notes, files, meetings, documents and the AI summary all stay on the group, so nothing is lost.
New members start empty. The individual members created by the split begin with no attached data of their own. Anything added from here sits against the member or the group it relates to.
The record type changes. Before splitting it's an Individual; afterwards it's a Group. You can add more people later with + Add member.
It's the reverse of Merge. If two different people have been merged into one record by mistake, Split is how you separate them again.
Split only appears when there are two or more email addresses on the record. If a client has only one email address, the Split option will not be visible in the menu. Add a second email address to the record first, then use Split.
